A metal base paired with a solid oak tabletop is currently one of the most popular choices for dining rooms and living spaces. But “metal legs” do not refer to a single design — they represent a broad family of styles, shapes, and functional solutions. In RaWood’s collection, you will find both classic, proven models and forms with a distinctly designer feel. This overview will help you narrow down your choice quickly.

Oak tables with a metal base: What should you pay attention to when choosing?

Before moving on to specific models, it is worth understanding which elements truly differentiate tables with a metal base.

Shape and type of base — whether it is four rectangular legs, centrally converging legs, slim narrow profiles, or a hybrid of metal and wood. Each of these configurations looks different and affects seating comfort differently — including access to the corners and how easily chairs can slide in.

Tabletop edge finish — this is one of the details that most strongly changes the overall look of the table. A straight 90° edge adds solidity and a classic character. A Swiss edge undercut on the underside of the tabletop makes it appear slimmer and gives it visual lightness — the table looks refined even though the top retains its full 4 cm thickness. In the descriptions below, we indicate the finish that we believe works best with the character of each model. However, each one can be modified on request — RaWood makes tables according to individual arrangements.

Extendable option — in RaWood models, the extension leaf runners are built into the metal structure, installation is simple, and once extended, the wood grain creates a continuous pattern across the entire tabletop surface. Every order with extension leaves includes a complimentary storage box. Tables without extensions are produced within 4–6 weeks, while tables with extensions take up to 8 weeks.

In models with the front slide system — such as ATTON and VIVA II, as well as Toscania, Dante I and II, Thor I and II, Mova, Nack II, and Cortez II — the extension leaves are permanently suspended beneath the tabletop. They do not require separate storage, and extending the table comes down to a single motion: simply slide the top out, and the leaves automatically move into the correct position. This solution is especially convenient for everyday use when the table is extended regularly.

Classic models — proven form, a reliable investment
VITA and VITA II — bestsellers in the collection

VITA and VITA II are the models most frequently chosen by RaWood customers. A 4 cm thick solid oak tabletop rests on black powder-coated metal legs. The Swiss undercut edge gives the top visual lightness — despite its solid construction, the table does not overwhelm the space. VITA II is the version with a more distinctive, more substantial base, which gives it a stronger visual presence. Both models are available with extension leaves.

Who is it for? For dining rooms where timeless elegance and dependable classic style matter, without any risk. It works equally well in modern, loft, and Scandinavian interiors.

CORTEZ — a steel base with character

CORTEZ stands out from the standard four-leg designs — its steel base features distinctive proportions that draw attention without feeling overly bold. It comes with a 4 cm solid oak tabletop finished with a Swiss undercut edge, and black powder-coated steel legs. Available in an extendable version with extension leaves (2 × 45 cm).

Who is it for? For dining rooms and living spaces where you want a distinctive detail in the base, while keeping the tabletop visually light yet solid.

LUKKA — an industrial classic with a straight edge

LUKKA is a model for those who appreciate pure industrial style without unnecessary embellishments. Solid powder-coated steel legs and an oak tabletop with a straight edge create a form that is clear, strong, and easy to incorporate into a variety of interiors. Available with extension leaves, and a natural edge option is also possible.

Who is it for? For industrial, loft, and modern interiors where you want a calm, confident form without overtly designer accents.

Designer models — when form matters just as much as function
ATTON — minimalism with a front slide extension mechanism

ATTON combines industrial character with an exceptionally practical solution — the table extends using a front slide mechanism, moving one edge of the tabletop. Two extension leaves of 50 cm each allow the top to be extended by as much as 100 cm. It features a solid oak tabletop with a Swiss undercut edge and powder-coated industrial-style legs.

Who is it for? For modern and industrial interiors where both minimalist design and genuine flexibility for larger gatherings matter.

VENICE — a 6 cm edge and a V-shaped steel-and-oak construction

VENICE is one of the more recognizable designs in the collection. Its V-shaped steel base is reinforced and finished with oak wood — metal and wood blend here not only in material, but also in form. The tabletop, thickened to 6 cm at the edges, gives the table visual weight and presence, clearly setting it apart from more typical solutions. This model is extendable and available with extension leaves.

Who is it for? For modern interiors and loft spaces where the table is meant to be a bold centerpiece of the dining area. It also works well as a conference table.

DEVON I — centrally converging legs, 6 cm tabletop

DEVON I stands out thanks to its original base — the steel legs converge at a central point, giving the table lightness and industrial character while maintaining solidity. The 6 cm thick solid oak tabletop makes the piece feel substantial and premium. The standard base color is black, but it can be changed to another shade.

Who is it for? For dining rooms in loft, industrial, or Scandinavian style, where you want a table that looks like a bespoke design rather than a mass-produced piece.

VIVA II — slim legs, undercut top, visual lightness

VIVA II goes in a completely different direction — slender yet strong metal legs and a Swiss undercut in the oak tabletop create an effect of visual lightness that is rarely seen in solid wood tables. This model is extendable and the leg color can be customized.

Who is it for? For bright, minimalist interiors, Japandi style, or modern spaces where a light form and contemporary aesthetic matter more than raw industrial character.

Lead time — shortened delivery times for oak tables

Oak tables with a metal base without extension leaves are made within 4–6 weeks. Versions with extension leaves are completed in up to 8 weeks. This is a significantly shorter lead time than for more complex custom-made orders.

Not sure which wood colour to choose?

Each model is available in a wide range of finishes — from light natural oak to dark walnut. Before making your decision, order colour samples directly from the product pages. The colour of the wood on a screen can look different from how it appears in the natural light of your dining room.
